Monday Headlines: Employees Fired and Could Face Criminal Charges

Two employees of a wastewater treatment plant in Dallas, North Carolina were firedand could face criminal charges after the plant was fined a record $141,000 for allowing untreated wastewater into a stream.

On Saturday, a quarter-mile section of the Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach, California was re-opened after being closed for two days because of a raw sewage spill that erupted from a pipeline.

The village of Antioch, Illinois officially broke groundon its long-awaited wastewater treatment plant Saturday. The plan is to have the $16 million facility open by spring 2010.

In Elkins, West Virginia, water distribution upgrades could begin as early as this year if funding for the approximate $26 million water treatment plant and upgrades falls into place.
