Wednesday’s Water News: Md. Counties to Cooperate During Water Emergencies

Posted in California, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas at 3:17 pm by bradhannon

The Maryland counties of Arundel, Baltimore, Harford and Howard have reached an agreement on formal cooperation during water emergencies. The initiative called Maryland Water Agency Response Network, is part of a national effort to lay the legal and logistical groundwork ahead of any disaster, whether it is the failure of one water pipe or a Katrina-sized hurricane.

Headlines
At least 20 homes in Mountain View, California had no water this morning after a water main ruptured causing a large sinkhole.  What started as a small rupture Tuesday afternoon quickly grew out of control when a 30-inch pipe exploded.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has issued a boil advisory for public drinking water in the city of Early.  Authorities say a break in the water main drained the water tower, creating the potential for bacterial contamination.

A water main break in Dallas, Texas this morning, caused havoc for motorists after water on the road surface iced over in the freezing temperatures.

Stimulus Spotlight
More than $73 million in stimulus funding has been approved by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for key wastewater infrastructure construction and rehabilitation.
